Hmmmm.
I don't know. I've never had a serious girlfriend, and I've never had a "hang out" friend either.
So I'm not experience enough to tell you at this point.

Dude, get off your pity pot & get involved with some charitable work. red cross, lions club, MDA, MS, AIDS , March of dimes or something similar. You will meet new people who are pure of heart and of good moral character (usually). You may find a lady who meets your fancy.

Here's the antidiote for your problem:
Find a woman you hate and buy her a house.

I started to say that I don't think I've met any girls because I've been so busy, but thats not it.
I've met plenty of girls, but none have been interested in me.

Then you aren't experienced enough to know you will wait 12 years to marry!
Your life will not be what you predict. Don't close off options with too rigid of a plan.
Advice: Try to keep your list of prerequisites short and your list of things you want to try long.

I know that I don't want to get married until I am completely finacially indepedent, and at least a couple years after I've started my career.

HMMMM . . . a challenging position to be in!
Will have more time after I get my grades into the spreadsheet for tomorrow's class.
Feeling isolated is no fun.
dialogue, human contact, intimacy are much better in a list of ways than sitting in a corner agonizing or sucking one's thumb. Been there. Done plenty of both.

Good advice for your father to give. But advice you will throw out the window when you fall in love.
Don't wait for life to be perfect to get married! What a boring story! Well, I made it all on my own, then I found a woman to move in with me and all my stuff and my organized life.
The good old stories all had couples that started out pretty frugal with nothin' and worked into success together.
