Does he get to keep the plaid jacket forever and ever or does he have to turn it in next year..Is is true that if you win the Masters you only get the green jacket for one year?

Yeah I think the religious zealot thing is in the talking points...I noticed Margaret Carlson said similar and other talking heads have mentioned it...

Also this thing about Cheney and Powell not talking...I find that hard to believe. Last I heard they were the best of buds and their families share Thanksgiving...And Condi hinted similar today on Fox and Friends saying that in her observation they were more than talking to each other. The Powells have a daughter around the same age as Mary whose sexual orientation is said to be the same as Mary's so I think this is one of the bonds they share.

Woodward was the one who outed Mary Cheney in a prior book, saying that Cheney would never run for President because he had a close relative who was gay...Why do they even let Woodward near any of them, for goodness sake.

Here's the transcript:

Btw, listening on the radio Woodward and Wallace's contempt was very apparent.

He’s with the National Security Council, in the situation room. Says Woodward: “They have all these TV monitors. Gen. Franks, the commander, is up on one of them. And all nine commanders, and the president asks each one of them, ‘Are you ready? Do you have what you need? Are you satisfied?’ And they all say, ‘Yes sir.’ and ‘We're ready.’”

Then the president saluted and he rose suddenly from his chair. “People who were there said there were tears in his eyes, not coming down his cheeks but in his eyes,” says Woodward. “And just kind of marched out of the room.”

Having given the order, the president walked alone around the circle behind the White House. Months later, he told Woodward: “As I walked around the circle, I prayed that our troops be safe, be protected by the almighty. Going into this period, I was praying for strength to do the Lord's will. I'm surely not going to justify war based upon God. Understand that. Nevertheless, in my case, I pray that I be as good a messenger of his will as possible. And then, of course, I pray for forgiveness."

Did Mr. Bush ask his father for any advice? “I asked the president about this. And President Bush said, ‘Well no,’ and then he got defensive about it,” says Woodward. “And then he said something that really struck me. He said of his father, ‘He is the wrong father to appeal to for advice. The wrong father to go to, to appeal to in terms of strength.’ And then he said, ‘There's a higher father that I appeal to.’"

[snip]

Today, while most doubt that Saddam still possessed any weapons of mass destruction, the president told Woodward he has no doubts at all about going to war.

”The president still believes with some conviction, that this was absolutely the right thing, that he has the duty to free people, to liberate people. And this was his moment,” says Woodward.

But who gave President Bush the duty to free people around the world? “That's a really good question. The Constitution doesn't say that's part of the commander in chief's duties,” says Woodward. “That’s his stated purpose. It is far reaching, and ambitious, and I think will cause many people to tremble.”

How deep a man is President George W. Bush? “He’s not an intellectual. He is not what I guess would be called a deep thinker,” says Woodward. “He chastised me at one point because I said people were concerned about the failure to find weapons of mass destruction. And he said, ‘Well you travel in elite circles.’ I think he feels there is an intellectual world and he's indicated he's not a part of it … the fancy pants intellectual world. What he calls the elite.”

How does the president think history will judge him for going to war in Iraq?

“After the second interview with him on Dec. 11, we got up and walked over to one of the doors. There are all of these doors in the Oval Office that lead outside. And he had his hands in his pocket, and I just asked, ‘Well, how is history likely to judge your Iraq war,’” says Woodward.

“And he said, ‘History,’ and then he took his hands out of his pocket and kind of shrugged and extended his hands as if this is a way off. And then he said, ‘History, we don’t know. We’ll all be dead.’”

******************************

Goodness knows why they give him access but I have a feeling he didn't have the access he had last time. I think he did a good story on GWB last time so he could come back at election time and help his liberal buddies do in the president.

I don't believe Powell was as adamant about not going to war with Iraq and like you don't believe all the backstabbing and hating is going on either.

I agree. I wouldn't have let that slimey snake within 50 ft. of the White House gate.

LOL! I think they get to keep the jackets for ever and ever. This is Stewart's 2nd plaid jacket. Can't miss THAT in the trophy case!

I think Bush will come out of this OK. At some point won't people start asking, "So, what's 60 Minutes bringing out against Bush THIS week?".

Kerry's in church again.

Democratic presidential candidate Sen. John Kerry (news - web sites), addresses the congregation during services at the Ebenezer United Methodist Church, in Miami, Fl., Sunday, April 18, 2004. (AP Photo/Steven Senne)

Does that look like a face of a person that remembered to bring some folding money for the collection?

The fact that he hasn't yet been struck by lightening is proof of God's patience. Politicking in church is a big no-no.

A friend sent me this today:

Regardless of who you will vote for in the election this is interesting.

There were 39 combat related killings in Iraq during the month of January..... in the fair city of Detroit (Michigan) there were 35 murders in the month of January. That's one American city folks, about as deadly as the entire war torn country of Iraq!

Worst president in history?

The following appeared in the Durham, NC local paper as a letter to the editor.

Liberals claim President Bush shouldn't have started this war. They complain about his prosecution of it. One liberal recently claimed Bush was the worst president in U.S. history. Let's clear up one point: We didn't start the war on terror. Try to remember, it was started by terrorists BEFORE 9/11.

Let's look at the "worst" president and mismanagement claims.

Lincoln allowed the US to fall into civil war. How would you like a nice Civil war today? You could go and kill your out of state relatives!

FDR led us into World War II. Germany never attacked us: Japan did.

From 1941-1945, 450,000 lives were lost, an average of 112,500 per year.

Truman finished that war and started one in Korea, North Korea never attacked us. From 1950-1953, 55,000 lives were lost, an average of 18,333 per year.

John F. Kennedy started the Vietnam conflict in 1962. Vietnam never attacked us. I think history might show Eisenhower committed the troops and Kennedy was honoring that commitment.

Johnson turned Vietnam into a quagmire. From 1965-1975, 58,000 lives were lost, an average of 5,800 per year.

Clinton went to war in Bosnia without UN or French consent, Bosnia never attacked us. He was offered Osama bin Laden's head on a platter three times by Sudan and did nothing. Osama has attacked us on multiple occasions.

In the two years since terrorists attacked us, President Bush has liberated two countries, crushed the Taliban, crippled al-Qaida, put nuclear inspectors in Lybia, Iran and North Korea without firing a shot, and captured a terrorist who slaughtered 300,000 of his own people. We lost 600 soldiers, an average of 300 a year. Bush did all this abroad while not allowing another terrorist attack at home.

Worst president in history? Come on!

The Democrats are complaining about how long the war is taking, but...

It took less time to take Iraq than it took Janet Reno to take the Branch Davidian compound. That was a 51 day operation.

We've been looking for evidence of chemical weapons in Iraq for less time than it took Hillary Clinton to find the Rose Law Firm billing records.

It took less time for the 3rd Infantry Division and the Marines to destroy the Medina Republican Guard than it took Teddy Kennedy to call the police after his Oldsmobile sank at Chappaquiddick.

It took less time to take Iraq than it took to count the votes in Florida!!!!

In the past 4 years I don't believe there's been a single picture of the Bushes IN church.

Coming and going, yes. And there was the 9/11 memorial at the National Cathredral. But not their regular Sunday worship...no photographers. And, as I recall, no reporters sitting in the pews to report on the president's "devotion".

That says a lot.

Good Morning!

In the past 4 years I don't believe there's been a single picture of the Bushes IN church.

That's because our President is secure in his faith and feels absolutely no need to demonstrate his Godliness.

Just my opinion, but an opinion I'm sure is shared by many.
