Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Still round the corner we may meet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

You know it's possible that even with the radio off that lady may not have heard that siren. WF uses those Kawasaki 1000 Police bikes. You can't hear the sirens unless they are right beside you if you have the windows up and the A/C on. At least I can't.

And then, like you said, if she had the radio on there would've been no hearing. *sigh*

I'm like you though, seeing an accident always makes me watchful all the way around. Not only are there emergency vehicles responding but people in the vicinity tend to do really stupid things while trying to rubberneck the scene. Too many little traffic accidents just from people watching a scene and not watching where they are going. Maybe that's what that lady was doing too.

White Lighting is the name of your boat? I like it! :-)

Sounds like a fun get-away place for you Sam!

Well, there's wild turkeys in FL, but north of here, don't know exactly what brand, though.

Lots of 'em in central VA, where I'm from, I see them all the time when I'm in a tree stand, usually when they aren't in season.

Only went after them twice, not successful yet. Some of the guys think it's more exciting than deer hunting, I don't see that, I don't think.

rosie: yeah, the turkeys here are good size... MO has the highest population in the U.S. ...

We've got TONS of them in this part of Vermont, but most of them are way smaller than the one you got. I imagine the cold doesn't help 'em any. That one's a real beauty! Wish I could share in the grilled turkey breast...sounds highly edible.

Yep, I'd be lying if I said I'd never been startled by a siren...

Whenever we come upon an accident (that's being attended by EMS), it's the rule in our car that the jedis look down at their laps. I've taught them that it is undignified to stare at people when they might be injured or upset or even just getting a ticket. We don't need to add to their pain or embarrassment by gawking at them.

And I hope it might keep my jedis from seeing something aweful at a young age.

The boys become very quiet and this helps me concentrate while navigating around.

We used to have turkeys roaming around the vicinity of my place back home. There was a little creek running through the pasture behind my house and we'd hear and see the turkeys often. I never did get to hunt 'em... they never came up in my yard... but if they had, I woulda had dinner - in season or out!

I think you're doing a good thing with the Jedis there 2J! Myranda and I always make it a point to say a prayer when we see EMS. You know, we just never know what may be going on, and instead of gawking and as you said, adding to pain or embarrassment, it seems like it's time go give 'em the little bit of help that we can add without interfering with the scene.

I think I'm gonna make your hot wings this afternoon, try the xanthum gum, see how it does.

Where do you get xanthum gum, anyway? And you use it in gravies and such?

I have five dollars to buy food for dinner.

Wonder how much turkey breast costs. Wouldn't be the same...but I'm gettin' tired of chicken. It was on sale all last week, so that's mostly what I've been eating for meat.

I can get another big package of chicken for $5, at least!

And if I go to the grocery that has local meats for not as much as the big store, I can get small quantities of just about any kinda meat or poultry.

Hm...wings actually might work. I have Tabasco, though I'm outta the green stuff. *snif* And they don't have it in the bigger bottles here! The little ones don't last any time at all.

I got mine at the health food store...a little bit goes a long way. OT and I have discussed "thickening" her sauce on her hot wings in the past and I suspect this stuff will work great. It just thickens...doesn't add any flavors or anything.

It makes great gravy from just plain broth!

Zero carbs.

This is the brand I use...

Sounds like a handy product regardless of whether you're doing low carb or not. I imagine a natural foods store would have it?

They might have cutlets for under $5. I haven't been shopping turkey meat lately, but I'm pretty sure the whole breast (or rather...turkey with no legs marketed as 'breast') is more than $5.

Yes, that's who will have it. I got this kind because it was very reasonable, compared to others they had...so shop! ;-)

And yes, it's one of those things I'm glad I discovered while doing this way of eating! The others are flaxseed meal hot porridge, almond flour, 2 oz heavy cream and 6 ounces of ice water (1.6 carbs) instead of whole milk (11 carbs).

Steve has lost 24lbs...I bought him new jeans yesterday at the thrift store, one whole size smaller and he wore them to work today! (He was beginning to look like a plumber, you know?)
