I hate to break this to you, but there are limits as to how much your elected officials determine whether you have a job or not. For all the credit or blame the president receives for the economy, the business cycle is the business cycle.
I was laid off for eight months in 2002. I finally landed a contract position. It took seven weeks to land the next contract after that, and now I've gone another one lined up, with a second choice, before I even roll off this one. And I make better money than I did before, get a lot more variety in my work, and learn a lot more new skills.
Times have changed. But there is also opportunity for those who are willing to adapt, and no president can do that for you. So quit tying your vote to the economy, because there is a much more pressing issue in this election, namely the approach Bush will take against terrorism versus the approach that John Kerry says he would take. Unlike the economy, the difference between the two positions are as stark and clear as they come. And are more than enough reason for me to overlook Bush's spendthrift ways and vote for him come November.
