Abolition of Marriage (Vanity)
My Own ^ | 26-MAR-04 | Core_Conservative

Some thoughts have been winding their way through the synapses of my brain. I know, it probably did not take that long.

Anyway, my thought was to have all government sanctioned marriage abolished, after all, it was originated a a church institution. If it were to be abolished, we would not be having any of the fights that we are having now. The Divorce Lawyers would be out of business, the government would not have to worry about tax deductions for married couples, everyone would be have to fill out their own tax forms, and the kids could be split between their parents, whomever they might be. If the church wants to marry people, then that should be allowed because it is seperated from government (by the supreme court) and it is a church ritual. That way is you want a divorce, you just have to go through the church.

Those are my thoughts, what are yours...

it comes with an instant package or rights and duties, that have been thought out and litigated. It also comes with government benefits, such as social security survivor's benefits

If that's the case then why are divorces litigated and the rest of the relationships are ripped apart by the Lawyers and Judges - I believe marriage licenses are preserved to maintain peoples government and other jobs (kinda like all the additional classes one must take to complete a college degree - which have nothing to do with the degree he's after)

Social Security was created because the Government believed that people are too stupid to take care of themselves - it also promoted the belief that government could take care of you after you retired - which we know now to be a farce!

You mean it takes a village?

More like a polis. I have no truck for the Epicurean myth of the pre-social man. Man is a political animal.

Does it really matter if an atheist gets married - after all - the whole purpose of marriage is to please God, and if you don't believe - then whats the problem?

If you get rid of laws against murder, murder will stop.

Bad analogy Pappy. Marriage ain't illegal. Not yet anyway.

I think the abolition of state-recognized marriage may become a necessity to protect religion.

Suppose:
1) Homo marriage gains acceptance in most states.
2) Certain churches will NEVER accept it. These particular churches will then be attacked by the homo lobbyists.
3) Services will be disrupted and/or protested. This will discourage the weak-faithed from attending.
4) Eventually, charges of prejudice will be issued.
5) Some activist judge will make the charge stick.
6) Churches may be forced by court order to accept things that they do not accept (for example - Catholic charities in San Francisco having to pay for contraception). These churches will refuse to comply.
7) Tax exempt status may be removed. Other public services denied (Boy Scouts for example)
8) Criminal charges may be made and accepted by an activist judge. Churches may be ordered closed.
9) Then we're back to the catacombs to worship together.

If there is no state sanctioned marriage, then homos don't have legal recourse.

This is all avoided with a Protection of Marriage Ammendment, which I stongly favor.
