Good morning and great essay.

Powell noted in yesterday's hearing that in February 2001, the less than two month old administration closed the New York City Taliban office.

Something the Clinton administration didn't do in 8 years.

In April 2001, the administration told the Taliban that if an attack occurred on our nation's soil, they would be held directly responsible.

Then the administration started seizing their assets.

This article details a conversation between Lou Dobbs and James Woolsey, former CIA director.

Woolsey points out several inconsistent and outright lies in Clarke's book that are fascinating. Woolsey also details how Tenet and everyone in the Clinton and Bush administration know there were high level contacts between Iraq and Al Qaeda.

There is an older article linked in post #32 that is interesting as well.

Peach, I am glad you posted those links and comments this morning. Clarke is a liar.

Now, here is the thing that struck me about Clarke. He reminds me of Scott Ritter.

Same MO...180 about turn, anger, arrogant and insulting comments about the President.

Most people who know him are genuinely astounded. What has made this turn in his attitude? It is creeping me out, because I am beginning to think we have had sleeper agents in all areas of our government.

That's an excellent analogy between Scott Ritter and Clarke and how they have both done a 180. I hadn't quite looked at it in those terms.

That people are so willing to compromise their principles and core beliefs and their country for $$ is beyond dispute. What I'd like to know if it was just the $$ or did someone "get" to them?

Freeper mewzilla is unable to watch this morning's 911 testimony. I am unable as well.

Mewzilla had this to say and I think it would be an excellent question for the commission to ask Clarke:

"I'm not going to be able to see the testimony today, but I hope someone finally raises a point that Judge Napolitano on FNC brought up this morning: Toon's executive order banning assassinations. Why didn't anyone ask about or refer to that yesterday? When did Toon sign it, and why? I'd also like to know if Kerry would sign one if he's elected. Someone should pin down Ketchup Boy on that."

Or, my biggest fear, that they were compromised early on and have been waiting to sabotage things.

What if the Clarke we saw on 60 minutes was the REAL Clarke? What if he has been mamnipulating policy from within the NSC for a long time?

Same with Ritter...what if his mission was not to spy on inspections as it was to sow division in the US government, regardless of who the president was?

This is very tin foil thinking, but I am wondering if China is somehow involved in this. It seems like a Chinese-type plan. Clarke is doing the same thing...sowing discord and attempting to erode support.

Actually, you don't want to go there.

President Bush signed such an EO as well.

Besides, that's not the point. The point is whether you want to proffer a military solution to the problem, or a law enforcement solution to the problem.

That makes a very clear distinction.

With a law enforcement approach, you cannot terminate these people, that's assassination.

With a military approach, those people CAN be killed. It is not assassination, but hors de combat. In other words, they are legitimate military targets.

The real question is whether John F'in Kerry would continue to pursue a military solution, which leaves all options open, or whether he would seek a police solution, which forecloses a number of alternatives.

It might have overseas ties, like China. Or it might just be one of the "timebombs" that Clintoon's hoard bragged about leaving for the Bush WH.

Good morning all.
