There is a silly extension of this. That Porsche is good for 200mph+. Yeah... like that happens all the time.

That was the cool thing about the Cobra. Sometimes it's not about top end. It's about getting there really, really, quickly. The Cobra still has (I think) the record for HP/weight but part of that is just all about torque.

If we wanted, we could make something that can get from 0 to 100 in six or so seconds, and back to 0 in four flat. That's where the Germans and Italians have killed us before. Speed isn't just about power, but its about handling and braking. That's something we've only recently figured out. That Porsche in the pic does 0 to 60 in about four seconds, and to 100 in only a couple more. But it can also run into a corner at 100, brake to 50 in the middle and be back up to 100 by the time it exits the corner. [pant pant]

But honey. I still want to drive American. It's just a nasty little thing about me that's not going to change.

Yeah, I've driven some incredible German and Italian cars. I enjoyed every moment of it. And I can lust after that performance and handling right along with you. But, I'm not going to have one parked in my parking spot.

You know we wimmin get terribly obstinate about some things. :-)

But, you like us anyway. :-)

I think. *wink*

Anyway, I'd love to have an old Shelby. That might even be my top pick of "if you could own *any* car and money was no option" but, money is an option and I can't see me ever having one of those. But, there are plenty of other American cars that make my blood run hot that I can play around with as needed! :-) I don't have to resort to no foreigners. :-)

There was a funny moment a little while back...

One my guys in the bay area has an older Porsche 911 Targa... and we took his car on a trip to visit a vendor in Palo Alto...

I made the mistake of asking him why he was such a fan of Porsche... He got off the freeway about then and took the 90 degree corner at about 70 in a nicely done four wheel drift without using the brake pedal even once. I'm pretty sure my fingernail marks are still in the upholstery. He just looks over and smiles. 'nuf said. :-)
