I wish the pups could stay out in the yard all night, but the breed is so fixated on their "master" they'd take it as punishment being forced to be out there without him.

Oh I wouldn't dream of leaving pooches outside, I just wondered if you frequently saw deer, or if the recent presence of your dogs kept them wary. Deer can smell them. Even though Gidget sleeps in, I think she is out enough, making rounds, barking at noises, that the deer I know we have near here never come close to the house. I only see them sometimes along the very far edge of the pasture.

I was just thinking.....is there any way you can enclose your square-foot garden in a chicken wire fence? Put a chicken wire roof over it?

Then, to get fancy, you could put plastic over it to make a greenhouse.
