Would it kill you guys to at least come up with a different format? At least put a little effort in? Just to entertain yourselves even? I mean c'mon, take some pride in your noble effort.

The reason you don get their tactics is you start out reasoning that they reason as you reason.
Their tactics seem reasonable given their beliefs, not just about themselves but the western world. They believe they are annointed by God with a special commission to rid their world of the infidel (the West) and they believe the West is spiritually weak. This is not just spin...they (including their leadership) really do believe it.
Different time, different setting, similary belief patterns led Japan to engage in a huge miscalculation.
Let us hope the same "sleeping giant" Japan awoke is still part of who we are as a people today. At times I have my doubts.

1. They have stated the act was to punish Spain for participating, in taking control of Iraq. Therefore, the goal of this attack may be to turn public opinion in Spain, away from cooperation with the US. By extension, this could be a "lesson" for other US allies.
2. AQ stated they are 90% complete, for a big attack against the US.
3. In case nobody noticed, muslims were attacking westerners before AQ. They believe they are required by the almight to kill non-muslims.
Sometimes apologists will make it out to be all about Israel. But that wouldn't cover India, Russia, Indonesia or Phillipines which have experienced recent incidents.
It is about the very long term expansionist aims of islam. Nothing less.
