HP manufacturing quality for the Presario 1500...bummer

TOPICS: Computers/Internet
KEYWORDS:
How many folks made the impulse purchase of the HP 1500 series of Laptop computers. I bought mine at COSTCO in Dec 2002. Crash after crash...I thought my software and/or installation setup was the problem. Turns out the engineering may be the root.... the doggone machine gets HOT and CRASHES. I am not a happy camper when HP (Carly Fiornia's geeky boys/girls gives me the shaft)! How many other folks are in this potential class of LEMON LAW litigants? FYI I have reformated and reinstalled from the HP boot disk so many times and hired professsional geeks to work on this that my cost has exceeded the cost of the laptop. HP seems to have SUCKED my dollars and given my the pulp!

Most laptops get hot and crash. You have to make sure the bottom is free of obstructions. Newer laptops have several fans.

If it gets hot a lot, you might want to pick up a laptop cooler. I picked up one for around $20. Its a plexiglass bent into a L with two fans slapped on it. Put a clipboard under that and plug it into the USB port and the temperature will go way down.

You certainly have a warranty claim. I've sent back a Compaq that ran hot and crashed. I also dealt with a Sony and a Gateway that had their network cards get hot and crash.

I merely point out that every laptop in my limited experience had heat problems.

Don't know about the laptops but I've had a Presario 5320 for 3 years and it's been an excellent trouble free machine so far.
Much better than the Gateway's we have at work and the Dells my friends have bought.

I have been using laptops nearly daily for 10 years now. A Compaq Presario from about 1994-97, a Toshiba Satellite from about 1998-2001 and an IBM Thinkpad from 2001 to present. I have never, ever had a problem with a laptop, except for the one time when my Compaq transformer quit working on me (and they promptly sent me a new one). In fact, I find that laptops are more reliable than the desktops I have. They rarely crash and usually run pretty fast for me. My only beef with laptops is the short battery life but that is not the fault of the manufacturers.

I did...sing/song answer...right of the HP script.
Then I finally got a referral to the (American) HP repair depot here in town. They coughed up the web references to the manufacturing problems with the HP Presario 1500...damned things get hot and crash. I cannot trust any business applications to this piece of JUNK from HP. My beef is with COSTCO and HP for not stepping up to the plate.

I have had nothing but software solutions for something that appears to have its root in the engineer/manufacturing department. Anyone else having problems with the HP Presarior 1500 series....It was a featured item at COSTCO.

I have been running a Sony Vaio for the last 15 months, dragging it every day (but Sunday) to and from the office with no problems.

I did have trouble with an HP desktop a couple years ago and swore off HP.

Do the laptop coolers need sized to your particular laptop or are they a one size fits all item?

...a laptop cooler.

Now that's a cool idea!

No pun intended. Really.

If you truly think it is a piece of junk, then wipe the drive clean and ship it to me. I'll pay for the Express Mail shipping by sending you a pickup slip in the mail. Just Freep mail me your address and it will be out of your life forever.    =;^)

That's because HP is made in China. Most items made in China are junk.

Besides, we shouldn't be supporting HP. Their nazi female CEO is the arrogant ----- who stated in regard to the loss of American jobs, "What makes you think you're entitled to be hired?" Well Mzzzzzzzz, what makes you think you're entitled to take our jobs overseas and then ship the goods back here free of charge?

One size fits all. What I've done is taken the L shaped acrylic unit, put a book under the front part, and have it sit on a clipboard. Its mainly there so that the laptop doesn't sit directly on my lap.

Make sure you get one that's powered through the USB port as you don't want to have to carry around another power supply. I turn on the fans every so often if I hear the laptop fan kick on.
