POLLING UPDATE
[While polls at this point are meaningless, I am providing the following data to let you know that the President is doing just fine!]

NBC NEWS / WALLSTREET JOURNAL
Approval Rating
03/06-08/04 50% approve 46% disapprove
09/20-22/03 49% approve 45% disapprove
[Even though the President's approval rating is lower than it was immediately after the capture of Saddam, it's still at 50% and no lower than it was in September!]

Deserves Re-election
3/6-8/04 48% deserves 48% does not deserve
12/03/03 47% deserves 46% does not deserve
[Despite relentless attacks AND a less than stellar jobs report, the President's re-elect numbers remain unchanged!]

Head-to-Head Match Up
GWB 47% Kerry 45% (+2)
This number represents a 10 POINT SWING from Gallup's -8 match-up and an 11 POINT SWING from ABCNews/WashingtonPost's -9 match-up!!! It also matches NPR's results!

What distinguishes the WallStreetJournal and NPR polls from the other two? The former polls are conducted by bipartisan (Democrat and Republican) pollsters; the latter are NOT!!!!

FYI: Rasmussen's poll from today still puts the President's approval rating at 53% and the head-to-head match-up at 46%-46%!

THE PRESIDENT'S RATINGS/MATCH-UPS WILL REMAIN VOLATILE FOR THE REST OF THE MONTH; HOWEVER, THE PRESIDENT'S BASE IS STICKING WITH HIM DESPITE THE RELENTLESS MEDIA/RAT ATTACKS AND ECONOMIC WORRIES!!! WE'RE IN GREAT SHAPE GOING INTO SPRING!

OTHER GOOD NEWS FROM THE ECONOMIC FRONT TODAY:

1.) jobless claims DOWN
2.) retail sales UP
3.) Greenspan says jobs 'just around the corner'

Greenspan: Employment Will Increase, Trade Barriers Not Answer to Job Loss

In congressional testimony this morning, Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan said that "employment will begin to increase more quickly before long," and that the policies of economic isolation being proposed by Democrats, “would make matters worse rather than better."

"As our economy exhibits increasing signals of recovery, jobs loss continues to diminish," he said in testimony to the House Education and Workforce Committee. "In all likelihood, employment will begin to increase more quickly before long." …

Greenspan said that the extended period of job losses has heightened fears that U.S. workers are losing out to foreign competition and spurred a number of proposals to erect protectionist trade barriers.

Greenspan did not name those who are pushing such trade barriers, but Sen. John Kerry, the expected Democratic presidential candidate, has attacked the Bush administration's free-trade policies and promised to review all trade proposals to make sure they contain protections for American workers.

Greenspan said a "new round of protectionist steps" represented "alleged cures" which he said "would make matters worse rather than better."

…Greenspan said the answer to these job stresses was not to resort to raising trade barriers to keep foreign goods out of the country because this would remove the pressure for U.S. companies to become more competitive and push America's standard of living lower.

"Time and again through our history, we have discovered that attempting merely to preserve the comfortable features of the present, rather than reaching for new levels of prosperity, is a sure path to stagnation," Greenspan said.
