although several people who called 9NEWS to report the damage said that they blamed Mel Gibson’s movie “The Passion of the Christ” for rekindling anti-Semitism.

By reporting accounts of those who have absolutely no objectively-tenable basis to weld the crime to the movie (even assuming both the callers and perps saw the movie), this *news report* doesn't put the movie aside, does it?

This could be the intention of the news report, or maybe the media just trying to connect it to the controversy in general.
