How different this is from another freaky lesbian movie where another woman, Hillary Swank, won best actress for being a butch in "Boys Don't Cry." This time the butch is a bitch. In the earlier one, I think 1999, the poor lesbian had always dressed up like a man and was murdered when some men found out.
Well, she ain't no butch, at least on Oscar night.

I'm surprised the libbies haven't complained about the movie. Maybe they like a woman being potrayed in such an aggressive (and murderous) way. Kind of sick.

Isn't this year two at the oscars for an actress to take home the big prize for playing a mentally ill lesbian? Wasn't Nicole a crazy lesbian last year?

In "Boys Don't Cry" I think that even the girl she was dating did not know her date was not a guy.
This film was about a woman who killed and killed again and claims it was self defense (she sure kept getting herself in a bad situation then).
There were 2 documentaries about her life (one in 1992 and one 2002). Both were nominated for awards (one at Sundance, the other an Amnesty International award). That she was executed in Florida with Jeb Bush as governor made this a high profile case for libs (especially since women rarely are executed anyway). Someone else pointed out that Lifetime did their own biopic.
This movie won because it was anti-death penalty. Just like the hobbled actor (sick, injured, or deformed) was a winning ingredient in years past. It's an "important" film. That means it tastes like pickled prunes but it's "good for you".

Actually, that's Naomi Watts - w/ boyfriend Heath Ledger. But she's a hottie, too.

I think that story was changed from:
Born a monster, behaved like a monster
To:
Born a human, abused by "evil" men, turned into monster
That's why "Monster" gets a break from Hollywood. The lesbian serial killer is portrayed as a more sympathelic figure than the real serial killer was.

I wondered what that movie was about. I didn't see it.

Any publicity is good publicity for them.
They've sold us the "white-washed" lesbian/gay character - now they'll start to show us the gross reality. Call it, "Conditioning Stage 2."
From an online review...
***What's so fascinating (and scary) about this film is that I actually began to sympathize with Wuornos! While I could never condone her actions you can see clearly what led her to it. This is a rare film--it makes a serial killer look sympathetic.***

That is not her in the picture you posted. I went to see Monster the other night even tho I wanted to see some mindless comedy. Charlize Theron gives an unbelievable performance. I knew then she would be the Oscar winner. Powerful!

Charlize Theron exposes a dark chapter of her life to Diane Sawyer Thursday night on "Primetime." The South African beauty talks for the first time on TV about her abusive father, and the night her mother shot and killed him in self-defense when Theron was 15 years old.
