According to Mel Gibson during the interview, the issues of who is Jesus, what did He do that He was crucified, and how He rose from the dead are not addressed in his movie.

I don't know how anyone could go see "The Passion of Christ" and either: 1) not know; or 2) not want to find out "the issues of who is Jesus, what did He do that He was crucified, and how He rose from the dead." And I believe that is exactly why Mel made the movie.
