Repartions: The Fact of the Matter!
Me

Posted on 02/15/2004 9:24:38 AM PST by X-Servative

The answer to whether reparations should be offered to descendants of slaves in America is quite simple…No! Put simply, if their ancestors had not been slaves, then those clamoring for reparations would never have been born! They want money for being given the gift of life.

Sounds very cut and dry to me!

"Comments!"

The Daytona 500 starts fairly soon.

Look for most of the drivers to be making continual left hand turns.

It's a short common sense answer!

Personally, the idea of getting paid for the slaves my ancestors had confiscated from them has some appeal, on the basest greediest level, but I like to think I'm a bigger person than that.

As for giving reparations to the decedents of slaves, it doesn't make any sense on a moral or logical level, but I've loaded my stock portfolio up on shares of Nike and Seagram's, so I'm kind of torn.

Actually, it is even easier than that.

Reparations are intended to compensate for something lost.

Those brought here as slaves lost quite a bit, but we cannot compensate them anymore. We can and are looking to compensate their decendants.

These decendants must be compared to those who decended from non-slaves.

Therefore, when we compare the standard of living between those decended from non-slaves (still in Africa) to those decended from slaves (here in the US), we can see that those who decended from slaves enjoy a much higher standard of living than who decended from non-slaves in the same countries.

Therefore, reparations are unecessary.

I wonder why they serve eggnog at Christmas time and New Years but not for Easter. I mean, eggs, Easter--you'd think they'd go together.

And why don't they make dishwashers that actually have a place for reasonably-sized cereal bowls?

(It just seems to be an Andy Rooney kind of morning, doesn't it? I hate that.)

I believe in being terse, but in real life discussion that may not necessarily apply. If you've ever been in a debate with someone about reparations, wow... those can go on and on.

Coffee...coffee...they grind that stuff out of bark or something, don't they? But if it cures repartions, then perhaps I should consider it.

If there is any justification for reparations then the only logic would be to repatiate those seeking justice back to Africa.

well, you want to shut up somebody talking about reparations? note to them that (esp if they are black) slaves were not brought over then, then likely blacks would still be in Africa. which place would they rather be in in these days?

I agree. I was going to start a long, drawn out explanation of why not, but then I decided that the author of this vanity didn't bother to so why should I?

See, this thread brought out the Andy Rooney in most of us. I'm GLAD he's out. I wanted him out.
