Here Freedom Flies In Your heart Like An Eagle

Dusty old helmet, rusty old gun,
They sit in the corner and wait -
Two souvenirs of the Second World War
That have withstood the time, and the hate.

Mute witness to a time of much trouble.
Where kill or be killed was the law -
Were these implements used with high honor?
What was the glory they saw?

Many times I've wanted to ask them -
And now that we're here all alone,
Relics all three of a long ago war -
Where has freedom gone?

Freedom flies in your heart like an eagle.
Let it soar with the winds high above
Among the spirits of soldiers now sleeping,
Guard it with care and with love.

I salute my old friends in the corner,
I agree with all they have said -
And if the moment of truth comes tomorrow,
I'll be free, or By God, I'll be dead!

Morning Sam!!

Here Freedom Flies In Your heart Like An Eagle
Audie Murphy

Sam, I remember Audie Murphy. I went to all his movies and read every movie magazine stroy about him.

Listening to the tunes now. Love As Tears Go By. Thanks much Sam.

The Lonely Watch

A sentry stands and looks into the night,
looking for so many things, some are in their heart.
Scanning for motion, or that odd sound, not right,
or just that certain feeling that gives one a start.

There’s the soft checking of the safety, and the magazine as well,
is the sling out of the way, are the night scope batteries good ?
One ponders of they heeded to sharpen their knife before night fell,
and did they have enough water, did they fill the canteen like they should?

Many thoughts pass through their minds, of families, friends, and home,
faces pass before their eyes, and words spoken there now have meaning.
In the long night they live many scenes of home, where every thought roams,
and their heart is void by the distance shared, and filled by their heart's leaning.

In the night a thousand thoughts come to them in silent parade,
and memories grow oh so bright, and they remember all in the night.
Only at the end of the watch do they try to tone it out, their dues they’ve paid,
and they hope sleep comes soon, to spare them more of memories bite.
