This is the kind of comedy that reminds me that, like with UFO's, there's no such thing as an "intellectual" unless you believe in them.

We're not gonna poke and prod anything with the technology to get here, unless they say it's okay.

We'll be at their beck and call, not the other way around.

Yah, I can imagine a FBI agent trying to cuff a eight armed alien, who by the way, has the technology to traverse the vacuum of space and infinite miles, and stuff him in a plastic suit with only 2 arms.

Maybe his buds will vaporize em. Maybe not. Maybe they will take him to the mothership, examine him and his *clothing, then vaporize him.

*all humans wearing jackets with bright yellow letters will be considered dangerous to aliens. oops!

Having the technology to get here does not mean they have the technology, or are carrying the technology, to defend themselves. Consider a Martian crossing the Rover. One good bite out of it and it's finished.

They have certainly poked and prodded aplenty. And evidently still are--though some assert that there are trends and periods of different types of interactions.

But whether it is because of some RELATIVELY detached "prime directive," or God's limits on what they are allowed to do or their just not scheduling anything else yet--we have not per se, been at their beck and call--though when they initiate a meeting, it clearly takes place.

And, they tend to dictate the limits of what they will and won't do far more than we do. And, they tend to violate agreements at will and with impunity.
