UG, speaking from this old ladys view point and from what I've seen of office policy and loyalty over the years, I think you are smart to make your list of pros and cons.
However, if it were me, I would take the 1 year contract, but would continue to look for something permanent with annual leave, regular raises, 401K, health insurance, etc.
Taking the one year contract doesn't mean you have to stay the entire year - unless there is some ironclad clause in that contract. So, if I were in the same spot, I'd take the contract and have my fingers crossed behind my back!

Thanks. That is the exact advice my mom gave me. The pro is that I am a contract worker, I can leave after eight hours of work. I will still look, I do have an interview next week that I plan to go to. I am leaning that way...
