Freeper Help Needed protecting autographed Football
3 Feb 04 | john316

I was fortunate enough to go to one the fancy pre-Supper Bowl parties last Saturday. I was able to get a ball autographed by the likes of: George H. W. Bush and his lovely wife, Don Shulla, Mel Renfro, Carl Eller, Charlie Joiner, "Moose" Bosson, Drew Bledsoe, Archie & Payton Manning. I would appreciate any suggestions on how to keep the autographs from getting smudged. I already have plans either to purchase or make a case for it.

Get it in a case ASAP. Also don't let your neighbors take it out in the yard and play catch with it.

If they signed with ink, the die is cast. If they used a Sharpie, you're in good shape.
Ink will fade with time no matter what you do. That's why you see limited edition, artist and celeb. signed art prints (I collect Aviation Art) signed with pencil - to avoid the fading of ink.
The best thing is to display it in a place where it will never have direct sun.
Good luck!

Laminate that sucker. Get a Big Laminator and run it through. Or that new Press and Seal.....it works great on Cheese. :)

Whoa - I wasn't aware of the Dubya & Don Shulla thing. I know the guy has veered left, but holy cow!

I'd die first, my brother told me it should be worth about 5 grand, but I don't care. I've got one more autograph to get b4 I put it away. An aquantice of mine played for the '65 packers as a DT.

If you live in the Houston area I can recommend a custom framer that can make a beautiful custom presentation/preservation case for it.

Great! Make/buy/obtain a display stand, preferably a case to keep dust off (which prevents handling to clean) and show it off!
I'd still keep it out of direct sunlight - but the signatures should last your life time.
