I think the ratings on older movies tend to be lower than ones on newer ones, for some reason.
The other thing is that they have their own rules for ratings...like for example, my family once rented "Songcatcher", not knowing much about it. It's a PG-13 movie, so we weren't letting the littlest watch it, but it just said rated for "thematic elements", as I recall - nothing else.
A few minutes into it, the main character walks in on her sister and her sister's lesbian lover as they're preparing to...you know. My Dad about hit the roof.
Natty Gann actually isn't that bad of a movie...if they coulda left that out.
