I'm kinda' partial to Kimber Arms. They're a tad more spendy than Colt or others, but not when you consider the smithing it would take to make a Colt shoot like a Kimber does right outta the box.
If its a regular carry thing you're after, there is a very nice Kimber officer's model, and it'll probly shoot better than most .45's with longer barrels, but it's nice and small and doesn't have protruding parts to press marks into the softer parts of the wearer... :-)
I have a Kimber Custom that shoots better than some Gold Cups that I've fired, and for a fraction of the money. Yes, they are a dead knock-off of Colt 1911 but they build them to far tighter tolerances than Colt does. They don't rattle like a Colt does.
I don't practice as often as I should, but with that Kimber I can put four magazines into six inches, rapid fire at twenty yards. It's a tribute to Kimber, not to me as a shooter... it's just a darn well balanced bullet pushing machine.
