Never? Wow... I've seen it in a few really old books, like from the 1970s... (just kidding, but I have seen it in older literature)

This seems like a rather different case from that flight attendant thing the other month! Sheesh, what a maroon.

Oh, on "hearing" it on the other thread, I understood it. Could be a southern thang. I just hadn't caught that here.

Maybe there's also a "sanitized" version of it.

Maybe I've just not noticed it when reading.

I am so glad my boss is such a wonderful manager - and a nice guy in general, for that matter! He keeps the rest of the place off our backs, too.

I've worked other places where Dilbert's manager was all too real!

You wanna have a cup of tea with me? Or did you already start without me?

I thought about the cocoa, but I gotta warm up milk for that and I just don't want to bother.

Our ex-boss was like something from Dilbert, only actively evil. My fondest wish is that I had seen him as he was escorted out of the building past the police cars.

Time for a cup of tea before bed, indeed! I'd be happy to join you. Just gotta stick the pot on...just a sec!

We had a really good dinner - Tuesdays I've been cooking dinner for my brothers before music night. Pork chops again because they were on sale this week, but this time I rubbed them with olive oil and herbs and let them sit in the fridge all day, then baked them. Also baked potatoes, and made fresh carrots with a little dill and some green beans for side dishes. The pork chops made really good gravy this time around! I think it was the herbs that did it. I have leftover meat and veggies for lunch tomorrow - no potato, but that's fine.

Going to put the tea kettle on!

I love my current boss! I love my current job. I just wish it paid better!

But I'm very lucky to have it. And I should get a slight raise in June, which will make all the difference!

Your dinner sounds lovely! Are you going to be able to hold out until your raise?

Wish my job paid more, too, I'd like to have a lump of money for going off to grad school.

OOOOHHH! There must be a story there. Please tell.

I've worked for a few actively evil bosses, too. But they never gave me an excuse to kill them. You can see it in the way Bill klinton operates, but for Hitlery, all you have to do is look at her face.

I'm still hoping to talk one or more brothers into moving in, but I don't know if that's going to happen. If I continue to spend almost nothing on food and cut my driving as much as possible, I'll catch up financially eventually...the trouble is mostly heating bills, and my glasses, which I still haven't paid for. If I can catch up on those, I'll be OK. But right now I'm behind on some things, which is not a good place to be. I don't know how I could have chosen more wisely, but there must have been something I did wrong. Too late at this point, though...but things are getting better rather than worse, which is positive!

I still need to save up for Van-sama's repairs, but that's something that doesn't have to happen right away.

This is not the place for fantasies...but...

I've had some strange bosses. One who was named "Norma." We referred to her as "Abby Norma."

But then there was the one in DC who fired me 'cause I knew he had two sets of books. 'Course I just smiled when, about a year later the Board said to him "you can resign or you can go to jail."

That's a direct quote.

Well, we think he was psychotic. We're a small business; two programmers, a sales guy, my dad - who's an uberprogrammer and a business guy - one guy who works on a client site all the time, and for a while, this boss.

Anyway, for whatever reason last summer we weren't making a lot of sales and the boss-man decides to fire the two programmers - me and another guy. Out of the blue, this was. Don't ask me how he thought this was a good business plan...

Unfortunately he miscalculated the percent of the business he controlled, and the rest of the board (my dad, the sales guy, and an investor) got together the next day and fired the jerk. They called the police ahead of time 'just in case', and probably every cop in the township - all six of them, in their squad cars - was hanging out, in the parking lot, when the guy was escorted to the door.

I, at the time, was at home sulking about being fired. I cheered up after that, went on a little weekend trip, and was back at work on Monday. They even made up for the lost time in my paycheck.

Dinner was good! What happened later wasn't...

Music night was going well, everything was clicking, and then in the middle of a tune I had picked, Jim stood up suddenly and revealed Fiona jumping down from the chair he had been sitting on the edge of - and a big puddle where she had just been. I scolded her and put her outside, but it was already too late. I'm still feeling mortified.

She's been soooo good for a long time, and she had asked to go out earlier and was out for a decent amount of time! I don't know what went wrong, except that she must have been distracted by all the commotion inside...but she didn't ask to go out again. It was really, really embarrassing, both because she misbehaved and because I feel like I let HER down because I didn't notice she needed to go out.

*sigh*

Heh...Bilbo's the main one who'd wanna watch 'em...and he's more broke than I am!

On the other hand, I'm really learning how to be a better cook, because I'm preparing everything absolutely from scratch as it's cheaper. So this is a bonus, in a lot of ways! And I'll appreciate it more when I can buy books and CDs again.
