The reason is undoubtedly fear of rejection at the outset on the basis of age. If you're a 70 yo looking to start a relationship with someone in their 30's or 40's, state it up front. While most 30/40 yo wouldn't be interested, some might be. Better to be up front and face rejection before sparks begin to fly than have to confess your deception later on. Rejection is always a possibility in all human relationships. Isn't it much better to be accepted for who you really are?
