"Is it illegal to tell me that if you told me it will be violating the law? Or is it just the initial telling me a violation?"

If I tell you that the bank is required to report a $10,000.00 cash withdrawal to the fedguv, they can construe that to mean that I was telling you to 'structure' the deal to avoid the report. Structuring is a crime and the feds can and have prosecuted people for it. Some car salesmen in the DC area about 10 years ago got a Club Fed vacation as a result.

I was being facetious with my remarks. But seriously, that is completely asinine to construe informing an individual of the regulations as assisting them in avoiding the report. I’ve had bankers tell me of the withdrawal regulation during transactions and it’s obviously common knowledge. The case of the car salesman would be an interesting read.

Seems another case of the Feds “twisting” the law to prosecute someone. *sigh*
