I was going to name my child D'Mensha, but now I think "Sony Trinitron" sounds prettier.

Anyone remember George Costanza's favorite name??? SEVEN! (Because it was Mickey Mantle's number).....:)

I prefer family names. Both of my children's middle names go back 4 generations (Louise and Edward)

Loop is our last name - no matter what names we gave the kids they were bound to be called Fruit eventually -- but not often.

http://www.mercedes-benz.com/com/e/home/heritage/index.html

Mercedes – a Spanish girls’ name meaning ‘grace’ – was the name of the daughter born in 1889 to the Austrian businessman, Emil Jellinek, who had homes in Baden near Vienna and Nice.

At the beginning of April 1900, Jellinek made an agreement with DMG concerning sales of Daimler cars and engines. The decision was taken to develop a new engine “bearing the name Daimler-Mercedes”, thereby introducing Jellinek's pseudonym as a product designation. Two weeks later, Jellinek ordered 36 of the vehicles at a total price of 550,000 marks – a sizeable order even at today’s equivalent value of DM 5.5 million. A few weeks later, he placed an order for another 36 vehicles, all with 8 hp engines.

Grin. That can happen. I knew a family whose last name was Van Winkle. I think I was 13 before I figured out that they probably hadn't named all 3 sons "Rip".

(What was "Prime Meridian?")

A wannabe "rapper" out of Chicago. He was the "entertainment" at one of those "on the Mall" antiwar things on CSPAN.

BTW, I hope it is "was", and not still "is". He almost made me long for Two-in-the-hat Tupac.

who named a beloved pet "Penumbra."

Well, the penumbra should be around for another few billion years. It might have been fortuitous that you didn't name your pet Beagle 2 or Shoemaker-Levy 9 or even Eugene.

The parents actually do it for the ad revenue. And now you know the rrrrrrest of the story.

P.S. Nobody liked those traditional, boring names of stadiums, either.

"Hi, this is Fedex. May I speak with your daughter, Meridien, please?"

I hope these kids know that they can legally change their names one day. I named my kids after relatives living and dead: Kristina Irene, Katherine Pauline, Joseph Michael, and Brenda Rose. My Grandbaby's name is Alicia Irene.

Since the name Mercedes has been mentioned, my mother's middle name was Mercedes :-) They didn't name her after the car, either...

There was this one incident that was pretty funny. I had just had my second oldest, and there was a woman next to me trying to figure out how to spell "Yvonne". There were several other women in the room trying to help her out. After 30 minutes of the phonetic spelling bee, I finally yelled Y-V-O-N-N-E! Now let me sleep, dammit! Btw, her baby was a boy :/
