Here comes the 4" DA...just a little hard to pack concealed, and draw quickly under pressure. Obviously hoping to replace the HP for around the property personal defense...then I'm a one-gun hombre...well...mostly ! (Then the hide-out pipsqueaks come in. I do not enter Onion Fields easily)

Since Threadkiller Muttly seems to have inadvertantly chased everyone else off this wonderful thread, I have a serious question of my own, and you guys are all the cream of the crop of firearms experience around here....too many names to list.... What is the reputation/utility of the .30 Luger ?
Not too bad on rabbits, but I had some I either placed poorly or were hearty stout critters and hopped their little bunny selves away after being so insulted. I was using a variety of bullets, the most interesting of which was the Speer *Plinker* which I have around as one answer for what to use to plug the hole in the end of .30 carbine loads.
I have a coyote problem here, and would like to chamber .30s in a Hi-Power, for more, flatter reach than the 9mm. I had always heard it had a bad reputation as a manstopper. I did see a CZ and Tokarev 7.62x25 yeaterday..hmmmmmm...but want to stay with my present equipment, perhaps only changing the slide assembly. I also realize that proper bullets are hard to find, but am willing to swage down Oregon Trail hardcast lead, if and when I learn how to, if necessary. Is it worth doing ?
Browning actually produced the GP [Hi Power to you] in a .30 Luger version, popular in Italy at the time, where handguns .30 caliber and under were minimally regulated. Accordingly, 7,65 Luger versions of several 9mm handguns were around, including the Browning, the Walther P.38, and the S&W M39 and M59 double-action. I've seen a few of the 7.65 Luger versions offered for sale here, never one of the conversion barrels.
I'd expect you'll actually pay more for a barrel for a GP than for a complete Cz52, which can be had in the $125-150 range of late. And of course the sights will likely be closer to true with 9mmP, so you may not gain much unless your GP already has adjustable sights. If it was me with your situation, I think I'd try saboted .224 bulets, probably out of a 7,62mm Tokarev. But they might prove interesting from a 7,65 Luger as well.
Some possible bullets for your project might include the .311-.312 jhp/jhc designs meant for the .32 H&R magnum. I've used these in my broomhande Mauser, which has a .310 bore diameter; the .311 pills work just fine in it.
..Muttly want an FN P-90, actually.....but it may be a little difficult to conceal..."may".....willing to try...
You expecting Kevlar sweaters on those bunnies, Muttly?

Oh well...that's what I thought....and if it won't "stop" bunnies, I suppose fangy coyotes and drug gangs are RIGHT out !
Would be nice to have sabot .223s in my HP (here, the GP is the longer-barreled Target Model, although I enjoy saying it with you, since it is the Original name), if available...but, alas...
Saw the CZ and Tokarev 7.62x25 yesterday...$205/$250 from the expensive store nearby...but then it's another setup, and I'd like to distill my equipment to utility/defense/bugout...therefore desiring the most from my HPs, and .357s. Still love my old, currently broken .44Mag. SAA 6"...especially with Specials, which are like .38 wadcutters from a 6" N-frame !!! Laughable recoil. Fun !
(These coyotes look untrustworthy. I wouldn't put kevlar past them. I check my wheel-lugs every morning, too!)

The 06 still has commercial sabot rounds for it. Not real accurate beyond 500 yards for sod poodle size targets but I have made hits at 700 on yotes with my 06 using em. ER Shaw makes some swap barrels pretty cheap for the 8MM. Is it mauser 98 ? Using the 8MM case necked down to a 30 would make an all round long range rig for about 80$. Brownells is also a source for cheap barrels.
A different toy is the old 303 enfield converted to 7.62x54R ....the russian round. Very easy to do, a kitchen table conversion. With a tasco piece of varmint glass, a choate plastic stock, a little bead blasting and rustoleium flat black one has a very accurate, cheap, weatherproof accurate yote / truck gun. Ammo from surplus sources is very cheap..... about 130$....last I paid..... per 1500 rounds. If you'd like I can mail ya the video to watch or buy it at JPFO site . The conversion was used to assist the KARENS in Burma. They had rifles but the ammo was crap so an old green beenie came up with the solution to use the new ammo captured from the enemy.
Stay safe !

Wow. Got a nice M70 '06, and it likes accelerators I recall, and an '03 Spfld., MK-1...a few 98Ks..but a friend is bringing over his Alaskan "truck gun" .303 w/Simmons. Should be fun. I expect to get a better barrel for the Mini, so should be well-equipped for the job soon.
That tape sounds excellent. JPFO is cool.
The Enfield #4 is a strange duck. Barrel vibration limits accurate velocity...something like 2400 is optimal...but hey...it's harvested a LOT of moose...and still is ! Do you know of any factory specialty loads around for it? Could be lots of fun.

No I just know the CUPS is almost same for the 7.62x54R thus I use it as .303 is close to an old Krag 30 Army I was given by my grandfather long ago. I don't have anything in 303 anymore. My lone Enfield has been converted, glassed and trashed to poor boy truck gun status. No lies from me on commercial 303 stuff.
As to the Mini-14 don't fall for the stabilizer add ons. They ain't woth time or money. Accuracy Inc in my state is best but they are expensive......but even then it won't even come close to HBAR accuracy IMO. Best use for the Mini-14 is house rifle. 300 yard 18 inch torso/brisket tewl. A good piece of glass makes it a sure thing.

Nawwww I don't like crowds..........I'll peek at it on the net. Too much shit 'n shineola at the SHOT show for me. Only thing I'm really waiting for is the AWB to drop, NRA to get their act togeather and Charter Arms to build a bobbed hammer ported 44 bulldog w/ a canvas micarta version of the barimi hip grip on it...... full moon clips as an option would be nice also.
Then get it powdercoated bright hot neon orange, lime or pink to preclude some SOB from claiming I brandished it .......Oh Yeah Wise Ass.....what color was it ??.........has worked for me in the past.........:o)
Stay Safe !

I was afraid of that Mini evaluation. What a stinker. I don't have it here, and forgot if it can hit anything. So a rebarrel is worthless too. Rrrrrrrrr.
Guess it's the acc. in '06. Just hoping for something quieter. Really annoying. Don't want to launch long-range heavy bullet stuff around either...realize I should just use a bolt-gun in some reasonable, moderate caliber. The .303 actually looks ok now. Wow. Perhaps a plain ol' 30-30 is it. Would rather get a bolt or single shot .223 and stick with the same ammo as my absurd stainless monstrosity. If I only wanted to frighten them....I'd show them my Drivers License photo.

LOL.........I can't suggest enough the TC Contender as I described above. I have a small sub caliber insert for it that lets me shoot .22 LR also in it also. A small MTM box of a hundred rounds and the rig rides in a small briefcase or rucksack. Extreamly accurate rig ..........:o)
Lots of possibilities.......Stay Safe !

I don't like crowds..... Same here. I really should try to get there once though, a buddy of mine goes every year and brings back a pack sack full of freebee's...
I've heard just that comment about color before. It was in respect to CCW. The shinnier the better, you want the bad guy and everyone else to see it when it's presented...or no one to see it when it's not...for sneaky-peaky, flat black is the only option...at least Glock got that right...just fool'n with you Eaker :O)
And to prove I'm not Browning biased here's my backup with my backup...

I'm pretty proud of that little fire ball...
Have a great Christmas, your posts in the third person crack me up...

Your wonderful photo reminds Muttly of a firearms-related Tae-Kwon-Do incident he actually lived through several years ago..in a principality far, far away (not really).
Seems he gave a $600+ check to a rather well-known repeated International Kata Champion, for lessons. The contract stipulated that if he were to move more than 20 miles away, the funds would be returned. After the first two leassons, wherein he did surprisingly well, according to said World Champion, (and having same lock his Glaser, Ball and God-knows-what loaded Officers ACP in the proprieter's desk during class) he unexpectedly did move, and requested his funds be returned.
Well, this met with some measure of reluctance. Sitting across the desk, the Great Expert said "aren't you afraid of me?" To which Muttly calmly replied "with what you locked in your desk for me...aren't you afraid of ME?!!"
The giant checkbook came right out, without another word...except Muttly's "thank you." BTW...the check was good.

29 in barrel, pistol grip stock. I can handload shells, guess I'll make me up some buckshot rounds for the bug-out, but I'm sure the adjustable choke would be ruined if I sent a slug through it.
You right about the shot-handgun. Wouldn't want to find myself at the business end of one.
