Any software you'd absolutely never get again?

Second problem, minor but irritating.:

Why, oh why, do I have to reboot with the scanner powered "on" before revboot, to get the scanner hardware to get recognized by XP? Seems like it would "pliug-and-play recognize simply by powering up the scanner without rebooting windows.
