Dagnabbit... got major wireless problem tonight. Let's see if THIS POST makes it. I've only tried this three times now...
Try a music CD, and since it's the left speaker, something with lotsa bass. As you crank the volume up the crackle should become not only more pronounced but more mechanical (instead of electrical). At high volume it may sound like a thackythacky sound as the speaker coil whacks against the magnet housing. If you hear that... if it wasn't blown before, it is now. :-)
Time to get new speaker.
