Yes the original BG was a bit cheesy, but it had som excellent moments.
Like in one of the episodes were Adama gives a speech about how the opposite of war is not peace, but slavery. Excellent speech.
Also, watching about Adama keeps to the surviving politicans from getting everyone killed is also fun to what even today.
My main gripe about the BG Remake is not Starbuck as a woman. But the change of how the Cylons were created. In the original series a now dead lizard race build the Cylons, though the humans are still sattled with fighting them, but the humans are innocent in that they did not create the Cylons.

The old show had a great slew of guest actors like Lew Ayres, Ray Milland, Wilfred Hyde-White, Fred Astaire, to name a few. When they were on screen they gave the show some real class. Yeah the old Galactica was sort of cheesy. I don't think most fans are proclaiming it to be high art. But it was a fun show and I don't need a dark, cynical, "adult" version bearing its moniker. It's BGINO as far as I can tell.
BTW, I liked the boy and his robot dog. The actor who played him was great in The Neverending Story, to speak of another movie/show that keeps getting sequels and remakes that never outdo the original.
