Great post, vanity or not. You write very well. It's been said anyone who brings up Nazis or Hitler loses the debate, but in the Schaivo case, with its strong connections to euthanasia and obviously, willful killing of the less perfect, I don't see how the comparison can be avoided.
Nat Hentoff did an excellent piece on the origins of the holocaust and the acceptance of eugenics in this country early in the last century. It seems that as time passes, we forget too quickly the horrors of these programmes. In the Netherlands today, euthanasia is legal. Elderly people are being killed by doctors who do not take the patient's wishes into consideration. Incrementally, we are being introduced to the concept of killing anyone deemed unworthy in some way. Today, feeding tubes. Tomorrow, it could be any reason, or no reason at all.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I met a lady from the Netherlands at Terri's vigil. She is currently educating me on the euthanasia situation there. Whats going on there is a horror. I just don't think I can stand it if that happens to America.
