Hopefully he will learn not to appear in movies with anti-American celebs who will harm his box office earnings...Viggo will never see a dime of my money

"...we [the United States] are not the good guys..."Hmmm... I dunno - seem to have missed that part.. Is it in Return of the King? I guess I'll have to decide whether to worry about it whenever I see the context. Maybe Aragorn gets possessed by Sauron through the palantir? I hope not, though, because Peter Jackson shouldn't take that kind of pointless liberty with the books..
Oh well. If I'm so dazzled that I still miss that line after my fourth theater viewing of ROTK, I'll get back to you here for further directions!

He's just a marketing machine. The LotR franchise is afraid to lose business because of the obvious Tolkienesque identification in the story with democracy against totalitarianism and barbarism.
A good majority of the fans will be rooting for America when they cheer on the side of good in the film.

I'm sorry ... I just can't take a person named "Viggo" seriously. In fact, I have trouble believing there IS such a person. I wouldn't name my fish "Viggo."
I've dozed through two LOTR movies so far ... someday my husband will rent this one, and I'll doze through it, too.

LOTR Fans...Is This Your ''King''?No silly! He only plays the king in a movie.... it's pretend.

The actor may be an idiot, but the producer who created the movies is definitely on our side.

Wow. And I heard the third assistant key grip on the new Jack Nicholson movie attended an anti-war demonstration. Better not see that one, either. (eyeroll). Choosing your movies based on the actors' politics is like choosing your politicians based on which movies they like.

Did he write LOTR?
This has been posted many times already.

I'm going to see the movie, and let him earn his wages...I could not care less about him off-screen.

Gee, thanks! So, where the hell were you when the first TWO movies came out? I've seen the first two, and I'm going to see the final movie, regardless of whether Viggo Mortendumbass "gets my money," or not!

Gee, thanks! So, where the hell were you when the first TWO movies came out? I've seen the first two, and I'm going to see the final movie, regardless of whether Viggo Mortendumbass "gets my money," or not!Viggo Mortendubass has earned my money for acting in those three movies. I haven't been cheated in those transactions.
The guy is an intellectual lightweight, as is most of Hollywood, where the final product is an image on a screen. He's not yet a living legend, which means he still needs employment in his chosen line of work in the future. But he's had a starring role in one of the greatest movies ever filmed, and there's almost no chance that another movie of such scope will appear for another 20 or 30 years.
So his next job will be a major step down for him, as for the rest of the cast. In his case, he has to send the message to potential employers: "I still want to work, even though you and I both know your project isn't a pimple on the butt of Peter Jackson's work." He needs to keep his name in front of the Hollywood public, and continue to get the invitations to all the right parties and media events. So he has to adapt the right coloration, which includes antiwar, "green", and whatever leftist claptrap substitutes for reasoning out there.
I don't think he's got the brainpower to actually think through his position, but he's smart enough to know that, for him at least, his next meal depends on being accepted as part of the herd.

Do I care? He plays the part well in the movie. And to see Tolkien's books come to life is worth more to me than what the actors think offstage

I knew the "you better hate this movie 'cuz one of the actors is anti-American" crowd would show up sometime - I'm just surprised it took this long. Don't forget to get yourself on the "Gandalf is a flamer" ping list too.
