Throughout it's history, Poland was often called to save Europe from the savage invaders, whether it was the Mongols/Tartars/Russians from the East, the Turks from the South, the Teutonic Knights or Nazis from the West, or the Swedes from the North, Poland was the backbone of the armies that allowed Europe to prosper. It is shameful that more people don't know the story of how Poland stopped the Russians in 1922 and 1923, keeping Communism from rolling over the European continent. For me the most shameful moment in United States history was the betrayal of Eastern Europe by Roosevelt at Yalta.

I am currently reading "Quicksilver: Volume One of the Baroque Cycle" by Neal Stephenson. One chapter of this book [see pages 350 to 376] takes place in Vienna during this battle. Jan III Sobieski plays a "cameo" role and a key scene occurs in the tunnels dug below the city of Vienna...

Dzien dobry, matrix2225! Witamy!

More of the world needs to know and be aware of the important contributions of Poland and her people including, for another example, that its Constitution was the first following that of the United States, this leading to its partitioning by neighboring countries and erasing from the world for more than one hundred years.

And even then Poland could not be defeated. The lamp of liberty could not be extinguished in the hearts and minds of the Poles.

To your Uncle and all Poles who valiantly defended freedom, dziekuje.
