I never heard or knew of one suicide in my almost 10 years service.....I do know a bunch of occupation troops in Japan got a shock when they went to Korea...They figured all they had to do was march up the road and the g**ks would thow up their hands and surrender....Didn't work that way....

I think the overiding reason today is all the kids are spoiled. They feel they shouldn't have to do stuff like this....JMHO....

......Westy......

Westy, you are probably right. I think there are more teenage suicides today than a generation or two ago. Why? Because, they cannot cope with the problems of today, which are so much less than then. Kids who have no fear of childhood diseases, wear designer clothes and shoes, have tv, stereos, and phones in their rooms, the best opportunities for education....decide that life is not worth living if someone disses them. They expect not to have to confront any difficulty.

Yes, you may say that times are different now with divorce and both parents working, which was rare a generation ago. But, times were hard, always for children, whether it be poverty or abusive parents or uninterested teachers. It seems now, though, that children do not have the strength to fight and instead give up.

It may well be, Westy, that our children have been taught that life is not valuable....as we abort our babies if they are inconvenient to our lives. What message does that give them?
