I remember my grandfather in Louisiana railing about the first law in the state that mandated driver's licenses. He was reading the newspaper and threw it all over the room.
He says to my grandmother....I paid for them to build these GD roads and now they want to tax me again? Well, I will not GD buy one... and he never did.
Mind you, this was before you even had to take a driving test or have your car inspected.

And I remember when as a kid I could walk down the street in my neighborhood with a pistol strapped on my belt and a rifle in my hands....Nobody went berserk over it....If I tried that now as an adult there would be sirens and flashing lights all over the place....
