I think that was just Tom Baker having fun with a little "controversy". He just mentioned the prospect of a woman doctor in passing while he was announcing that he was leaving the series back in 1980 or whenever.

Oh yes. Doctor Who wouldn't be the same if there wasn't a guest appearance by the Brigadier.

Leela-The evil one!
Doctor-Well, nobody's perfect, but that's overstating it a bit.

I remember seeing bits and pieces of that. It seemed odd to have each character drive their own personal space shuttle orbiter.

Yeah, loved those Welsh Sontarans, Scottish daleks, and English cowboys.

Bttt. I too enjoyed Doctor Who very much.

Davison did have some good episodes early on but too many of his later scripts just sucked. His last one wasn't as bad I remembered, just a bit too adult/violent. The first Colin Baker episode started off on the wrong foot and he never recovered.

Oh yeah...I'd take her along too :-)
The one I couldn't stand was that obnoxious school girl.

"...Yorkshire farmer's dialect"
And it is difficult to understand in person......
Made a special trip to Askrigg (Darrowby) and stood outside Skeldale House, 10 yrs ago or so. Looks just like
"All Creatures...", with the exception of the tour buses.
And the Yorkshire dales are beautiful.

I've got a Tom Baker scarf. Back when they released a comic book version somebody wrote into the editor asking about the specifics of the scarf. Well, the editor printed out the exact lengths of the different colors and I had one made. Couldn't wear the dern thing anywhere it dragged the ground. Of course I was still a teenager and only 5'6" ;)

Anyone ever watch a BBC series, "Danger UXB?"
Wish they'd run those again. Very Good.
(Sorry, got off the Doctor Who topic there.)
Always interesting to see WHO turns up on threads, isn't it?

Just like the Doctor's. I kept waiting to see him trip over it, just once......

Ah, a muffin man.
Yes, the pilot repeated the original episode. The Lister character was handsome leading man material instead of a slacker like in the British version.
The laugh track was the worst. American television can really be crass. A buddy of mine worked in post production in Burbank and had a copy.
It stank.

Colin Baker was passable. Good actor, but he portrayed the Doctor as an obnoxious jerk. Sly McCoy was just awful.

Sly McCoy was just awful His terrible performance and the rot in writing and production was the final nail. Shame because if a better producer had been at the helm it might never have gone off the air!

I love it! ... could hear the music screeching down as I scrolled down the page.
