Britain fought well after the Blitz. Germany continued fighting hard certainly into December 1944 (Battle of the Bulge), after many major cities (e.g., Hamburg, Cologne) had been bombed to bits. And Russia fought hard and won after losing many major cities (e.g., Kiev, Minsk, Kharkov, Rostov, Smolensk).

Disagree. We wouldn't give an inch. Relief and reconstruction would be done primarily by volunteer fire departments, police and police auxiliary, and civilian volunteers, from across the country, aided by many from other countries. Especially our allies, but even countries that haven't been close to us would warm up.

Then, when the dust settled, there would truly be hell to pay.
