In the meantime, I did find one of the sources about AQ & ebola:

"Testimony in a 1999 Egyptian trial of 107 suspected terrorists suggest that the al-Qaeda network might have negotiated to purchase biological weapons such as anthrax and the Ebola virus. A leading terrorist, associated with al Qaeda, said to a reporter during the trial that Osama bin Laden and his top aide, Islamic Jihad leader Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri, had bought both biological and chemical agents and made a list of 100 U.S. and Israeli targets for such attacks.

The court was told that suspected terrorists connected to bin Laden had admitted to buying germ agents by mail for $3,865. Samples of the Ebola virus and salmonella bacteria were offered for sale to the bin Laden associates by factories in Eastern Europe. Another supplier in Southeast Asia made an agreement with the terrorists to sell "samples of anthrax", while a lab in the Czech Republic agreed to sell botulinum toxin for $7,500."

I certainly wouldn't rule out AQ trying to acquire Ebola, or using it by any means. I probably shouldn't be so quick to dismiss a report like that - it's kinda like the Egyptian government saying the plane crash wasn't terrorism moments after the plane hit the water. I was just poinging out that there could be a natural cause for it :)

On the other hand, I read Executive Orders and Ebola scares the **** out of me. Remember that quote? "Do you know how many viruses we know how to cure? None." That's scary. Fortunately some viruses can be controlled.

Bioweapons scare me much much more than chemical or nuclear weapons because like the Energizer bunny they just keep on going.

Speaking of diseases, one of my kids brought a note home from school today - it seems that they have a child with meningococcal meningitis in the school. The standard "if your your child develops flu-like symptoms with headache and stiff neck, please do not send him/her to school and see your pediatrician or nearest Emergency Room immediately" letter.
