A computer question
Posted on 10/28/2003 8:43:34 PM PST by Oreo Kookey
If I'm out of line asking this here, please just delete the thread.
Many of the sites my email friends suggest display only a line boarder with a square in the upper left corner with a tiny red square, gray circle and blue triangle inside. Does anyone know why this happens. I'm using Windows 98, on SBC DSL, Outlook Express and IE. I can't find anything anywhere on this problem. Mainly because I don't even know what to call it.
Any help would be so appreciated.

That icon could mean the browser could not find a program to execute whatever code or applet was on the page. It also could mean there is some kind of mistake on the website and whatever it tried to do had some kind of error.

I can't tell exactly by the description but if you are getting the Dreaded Red X inside a specific small box, it means that someone posted a photo or other image that's viewable on their PC's but that can't be viewed on the Internet. I cannot imagine that all your friends are sending you sites like that. Can you give a link to such a site here on this thread and see if we can see it or if we get the unviewable square?

Take a Screen shot, then post it here so we can ID it, I'm curious. (By the way, if ya don't know how to take a screen shot, press the "Print Screen" key on your keyboard, and then pastet the captured image into an image file or something.:)

and then the web server to display the screen shot?
To: Oreo Kookey
You may not have a flash/shockwave player installed. Why not email the person back and ask how to view or play the doggone file? :-)

Should that be press the Alt-Print Screen keys ?
If they are sending you a link to click on for you to go to a web site you might want to try this:
Right click on the IE Icon on your desktop
Select: Properties
Click the "Advanced" tab
Scroll down to "Multimedia"
Make sure "Show Picture" has a check mark in it.
If they are sending you a copy of the web page in the email, then they might not be sending the images with it.
Also, you may need to turn on HTML in Outlook Express to view the images.
not much....good luck

I just clicked this link and it played a Flash movie. You probably don't have the Macromedia Flash Player installed on your browser. Go to
this site, click on "Download Flash Player", and then follow the download and installation instructions.
