I'm just asking the question. It appears that you can also state that that perhaps God is trying to get his attention. That would certainly get mine. I also agree with you in the fact that God could have struck him dead on the spot. This is why I am asking the question. Any other opinions out there?

Any other opinions out there? Maybe the electrical charge difference between the clouds and the ground was high enough to ionize the atmosphere and start a lightning strike, and maybe the fact that this guy had a METAL umbrella raised on TOP of a HILL made his umbrella the focal point for the electricity.
