You would pay at least $250,000 for that house here, and that is without a lot of frills or land, and only if it was not waterfront/waterview. The house next door to us on one side, a two story split level with 3 bedrooms and 2 baths has about an acre of land, is 7 years old, wood siding with rock trim and just under 1600 sq ft. It sold for $214,000 to our present neighbors. Outrageous.

ACtually I believe in free enterprise...... if someone has land and they can sell it for a profit, they should be allowed to....... If I want to preserve the area around my home then I better buy it..........

Our development was farm land, with a few homes down one road adjacent...... those people were offered the land, by the farmer, for $350,000....... no one bought it so he sold to a developer..... now all those people do is bitch about us being here....... they had the chance to buy it but want to deny the owner the right to sell?

I see your point, but I still maintain the right to sell your own property and not have some "committee" say it needs to be preserved........

exactly our point to the treehugger behind us, who was put out that he was no longer living backed up to a wooded farm, but rather to 4 new homes. you want trees, you gotta BUY THEM and the land they sit on, when you live in Fairfax Co.

even before we finished the basement, our house had appreciated $200k in the 5 years we lived here. one of the advantages of living in a company town.

Here, you have to get the county sanitation inspector to look at you home site, and he tells you where to put the septic tank and drain field, and what kind of system you are allowed to have given the size of the planned home, the property, soil composition and proximity to the lake and any creek or drainage swale, and sells you a permit. If you are lucky, you can have a standard septic system. If you are not, you will have to have either a transpoevaporation system (more expensive), or an aerobic system (horribly expensive and ugly).
