A University of Chicago student has filed an ethics complaint against Sen. Elissa Slotkin for her recent suggestion that college graduates who work for the Trump administration might be prosecuted.
“Senator Slotkin, if you thought this was over, you’re wrong,” said student Michael Bicksel in a video he posted on X on Oct. 22 as he held up a copy of an ethics complaint he filed with the U.S. Senate.
“The complaint was submitted to the Senate Select Committee on Ethics and argues that Slotkin proposed using congressional investigations and potential prosecutions to frighten young people away from serving in a Republican administration,” Fox News reported.
“The complaint asks the committee to determine whether Slotkin’s comments amounted to ‘improper conduct which may reflect upon the Senate,’ a standard described in the Senate Ethics Manual as applying to conduct that may be unethical even if it does not violate a specific law or Senate rule,” the outlet reported.
Speaking Oct. 13 at the University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics, the Michigan Democrat said potential legal problems should be a deterrent against working for Trump.
“I wanna look at these signature cases, and not just focus on the president, but on the people who enabled him,” Slotkin said. “I want young people coming out of school to say, ‘Should I go work for the Trump administration? Like, that sounds like fun. I might get an opportunity.’”
“I want them to be like, ‘Lord, that might be buying myself a ton of problems that I don’t want, and so let me avoid participating in that,” she said. “I want that deterrent message.”
The comments drew widespread criticism as a threat to young conservative graduates looking to work in government, as well as complaints the sentiments were akin to “Bolshevik tactics.”
Bicksel, senior editor at the Chicago Thinker, the student news outlet which broke the news of her comments, has been an outspoken critic of them.
“It is appalling … that an elected leader would go to a premiere American university noted for its commitment to free speech and outline such anti-American plans with such ease. Perhaps even more ironic is Senator Slotkin’s and her party’s obsession with ‘defending democracy,'” he wrote in an Oct. 20 piece.
“She happens to be one of six Democratic lawmakers who encouraged active duty military personnel to disobey ‘illegal orders’ from the Commander-in-Chief.”

I believe it would have been in Sen. Slotkin’s best interest to have kept her mouth shut on this one.
The Senate and House better get their act together to challenge the Fascists and other unqualified charlatans. Their numbers are rising. The Omar and Slotkin situations are just examples. There are many more that need to be subjected to internal policing.
I believe her comment was prepped and tested. This was no boating accident.
Notice how pathetic she sounds when speaking without a script. Go to 32:03 for the question, and her, um, answer, um, starts at 32:08: https://youtu.be/vrOaYchwJ4w.
If you do a shot every time she says “um” you’ll be hammered in a few mins.
You’ll also notice there are no “ums” when she speaks of going full Stasi. Methinks this is a Focus Group approved message.
was set for that in the first term. It feels like if you don’t get impeached for January 6, like what does the word mean?
32:08 Yeah. I will say um because I still see him on the floor um if Mitch McConnell had done the right thing, then Donald Trump would have been impeached after
32:16 January 6th and he did not. and his legacy along with his health issues will be how he is remembered
32:22 um and should be. But um but um i am into effectiveness and um if we have the
32:30 House but not the Senate, you know, I don’t have a ton of faith that my Republican colleagues are going to have any more strength. So that’s what I’m saying. I want to look at these
32:38 signature cases and not just focus on the president, but on the people who enabled him. I want young people coming
32:45 out of school to say, “Should I go work for the Trump administration?” Like, “That sounds fun. I might get an opportunity.” I want them to be like,
32:51 “Lord, that might be buying myself a ton of problems that I don’t want. And so, let me avoid participating in that. I
33:00 want that deterrence message sent.”
Sounds logical. So what’s their game?
I’d guess Slotkin’s handlers were hoping for more primitive and illegal responses from conservatives. They were baiting us.
Their weakness is in believing their own propaganda about Trump supporters.
She is such a vile pig. Seems to be a pattern for ex-CIA politicians.
But all Dems are dumbbells, some are more dumb than others...
Yes, seditionist Slotkin is vile. She should be.....
Gee, when I went there we got Jesse Jackson as a visitor. This is more interesting.
(I did also get to see WFB and Cardinal O’Connor. WFB was a disappointment.)
