NIGERIA: Where a real genocide is being waged against Christians by Muslims, yet is virtually ignored by the Western media

This is a daily occurrence, and yet western media remains silent. Tens of thousands of Christian men, women, and children have been slaughtered and beheaded, women and children raped and kidnapped, entire villages wiped out in minutes, al by Islamic terrorists. Remind me what occupation they’re fighting against? This is ethnic cleansing and pure hatred against non-Muslims. This is what actual genocide looks like. Beyond the massacres, there are also thousands of church burnings, abductions and forced conversions of Christian children and women to Islam. But because it doesn’t fit the (anti-Israel) narrative, almost nobody cares.

• FY 2024: The U.S. obligated around $930.2 million (with roughly $783 million fully disbursed).

• Peak Years (2023): U.S. aid to Nigeria hit a decade high of approximately $1.03 billion in 2023.

• FY 2026 (Partial): Over $187 million has been recorded/disbursed mid-way through 2026, alongside targeted allocations such as $32.5 million in hunger and emergency assistance for northern Nigeria.

Major Sectors of U.S. Assistance

The vast majority of U.S. funding focuses on social and economic development:

• Health ($477M+ in FY 2025): The largest share goes to health initiatives, including HIV/AIDS support through PEPFAR (roughly $336 million), malaria prevention ($73M–$145M depending on reporting tracking), maternal and child health, and tuberculosis programs.

• Humanitarian Assistance: Funding targets food security, internally displaced persons, and crisis-affected regions (such as a $32.5 million hunger response package).

• Economic Development, Agriculture, & Education: Smaller portions support smallholder farmers via Feed the Future, governance, civil society, and education programs.

Nigerian citizens residing in Nigeria have been prosecuted for stealing US tax dollars and federal funds through large-scale identity theft and cyber fraud schemes.

The DOJ has documented multiple major cases involving individuals operating directly from Nigeria, as well as multi-national rings collaborating across borders.

<><>Abidemi Rufai Lekki, Nigeria ~$2.4 Million Rufai, a former Nigerian state official, operated from Nigeria to steal U.S. taxpayer funds. He used stolen identities to file fraudulent U.S. tax returns and siphon pandemic-related disaster aid. He was sentenced to 5 years in U.S. prison.

<><>Abayomi Quadri Eletu (with co-conspirator) Nigeria / United Kingdom +$100 Million Indicted in 2026, Eletu and his co-conspirators targeted the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) by using the stolen identities of U.S. taxpayers and accountants to file massive volumes of fraudulent tax returns.

<><> Olusola Luke Guatemala / Nigeria $3.5 Million A Nigerian native who breached U.S. Government computers to extract taxpayer data and file fake returns. He successfully obtained over $734,000 before being caught and sentenced to nearly 3 years in prison.

International Nigerian fraudsters steal
US taxpayer funds using these methods:

• Stolen Personally Identifiable Information (PII): Syndicates buy or breach data containing U.S. Social Security Numbers (SSNs), dates of birth, and names.

• Federal Student Aid Datashare (FSAD) Exploitation: Cybercriminals have used federal educational databases to pull pre-filled tax records of U.S. citizens to verify valid identities before submitting fake returns.

• “Pay and Chase” System Vulnerabilities: Fraudsters capitalize on the IRS system of quickly distributing refunds or emergency relief funds (like pandemic unemployment or hurricane aid) before full verification takes place, routing the cash to prepaid debit cards or international bank accounts.

While many Nigeria thieves operate directly out of Nigerian cities like Lagos or Lekki, the US government routinely coordinates with international agencies like Interpol and local authorities (such as Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission) to track, extradite, and prosecute these individuals in federal courts.
