House Democrats plan a first 100-days agenda if they sweep to power in midterm elections

House Democrats are preparing an ambitious 100-days agenda focused on delivering their campaign promises — making life more affordable and conducting vast oversight of the Trump administration — if the party seizes majority control in next month’s elections.

Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries, who is in line to become House speaker if the party wins power, said the Democrats will be united “right out of the gate” on reinstating Affordable Care Act tax breaks, reversing Republican Medicaid cuts, holding votes against the Iran war and undoing President Donald Trump’s tariff regime.

They expect to launch the agenda in the first 100 hours, once the new Congress is seated in January.

“Fighting for an affordable America — that’s what unites Democrats all across the country,” Jeffries said recently at the party campaign headquarters in Washington.

“That’s our commitment to the American people, because the cost of living is way too high and far too many people who are working hard, playing by the rules, can’t thrive and can barely survive — and are drowning — in the Trump economy.”

It’s a hyper-focused agenda tapping into the voter sentiment that is driving much of the midterm election as Americans wrestle with affordability concerns and inflationary costs from the Iran war and other policies.

The undertaking will also test the ability of the sprawling House Democrats to work together and avoid the chaotic divisions and disruptions that have hobbled Republicans under Speaker Mike Johnson’s leadership.

Democrats have been out of power in the House since 2023. If Jeffries takes the helm, he would be the first Democratic speaker since Nancy Pelosi, leading a new generation of lawmakers that includes a handful of far-left candidates who are aligned with the Democratic Socialists of America.

they cant do a SINGLE one of those things without Trumps signature.

All smoke and mirrors.

Nothing will be accomplished except endless investigations of Trump and associates.

The democRATs want to arrange for their own 10% of everything.

President Trump should create a special DOGE pen for all of the vetos.

“...making life more affordable...”

Don’t recall a time in the last 50 years where dems made anything more affordable from dog catcher up to the Presidency. Welfare handouts don’t count.

I do very much hope things work out differently than I expect, but let me point this out:

If things go bad - or even a little bit better than expected - you’re going to find out why some people opposed ripping up the filibuster. I do think we’ll keep the Senate - but I’m not confidant enough to bet even money at this point.

Regardless - if for no other reason that preferring a SLOW moving government and Senate ability to stall bad ideas? We’re going to see why this matters and how it works.

The Senate makes its own procedural rules. And since it’s a simple majority vote, that means the party of 50+1 writes the rules. But - even IF the DSA wins the Senate? There’s no possible way they’ll have enough votes.

You have a point there. And they are also trying to scare MAGA voters away from the polls.

In a way, it's better for the Democrats to capture the House in November because it'll be a "gentle reminder" for Americans why we should vote for Vance (or Rubio) in 2028.

Honestly, for the most part the Republicans were not that inspiring the past two years. We were supposed to be MAGA but not really. But we did manage to secure the borders, which is very important.
