Poll Shows Fetterman Popular With Republicans, Not Democrats

Widely condemned by fellow Democrats in Pennsylvania and beyond for his outspokenness, Sen. John Fetterman nonetheless would be a favorite among Republicans if he switched parties and sought the GOP nomination when he's up for reelection in 2028.

A just-completed Quinnipiac poll shows Fetterman with a strong 72% favorable rating among Pennsylvania Republicans. Only 19% view him unfavorably, while 7% have no opinion.

Those numbers have fueled speculation that Fetterman could announce a switch to the Republican Party following the November elections.

Such a move could prove crucial for Senate Republicans, particularly if Democrats gain the four seats needed to reach the magic 51 required for a majority and control of the chamber.

If Fetterman then crossed the aisle to join the GOP, the Senate would be evenly divided between the two parties, leaving Vice President JD Vance to cast tie-breaking votes. That would give the GOP control of the Senate.

Fetterman has good reason to consider switching. The latest poll shows his standing among Democrats is dramatically different.

Quinnipiac found that only 13% of Pennsylvania Democrats view the senator favorably, while 69% have an unfavorable opinion of him. An additional 16% have no opinion.

I know a few Pennsylvania Democrats. Most of the older ones are willing to give Fetterman the benefit of the doubt (so far). But most of the younger ones are done with him.

Just my personal observation.

He’s a Hubert Horatio Hornblower Humphrey Democrat, in a party where the Bolsheviks are too far-right.

(The HHHH is a reference to Carter’s acceptance speech way back when.)

As a Pennsylvanian, I’d be willing to register as a RAT to engage in a little Operation Chaos. I’d be happy to vote for Fetterman in the PA Primaries in 2 years.

“Captain Israel” is my Senator that’s for sure is he going to switch parties or will he go with “Independent” next to his name.

Josh Shapiro the Democrat Governor here in PA pushing a bill that passed the House to allow Independents into party primaries.

Fetterman won't switch parties UNLESS the Democrats win 4 seats in the Senate (my guess would be NC, ME, OH and TX).

Then in that scenario, he may do it just to preserve the filibuster in the Senate and to prevent the red-green alliance from taking over the country.

His wife is a Dem activist. His parents are life long Republicans. See his problem....he’s bigger than the couch.
