SpaceX is pushing toward Starship Flight 14 with Ship 41 and Booster 21 completing major testing, including a spectacular 33-engine Super Heavy static fire. Meanwhile, SpaceX's Starship Plans Just Got Much Bigger, the colossal new Starbase Louisiana plans for at least ten Starship launch pads and thousands of future launches. Ship 40 has also finally been loaded aboard the massive FORTE recovery vessel for its long journey back to Texas after Flight 13. We also look at the final Falcon 9 Starlink launch from Florida, the upcoming Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope launch on Falcon Heavy, Ariane 6, the latest ISS spacewalk, and the unfortunate end to the LINK mission to save NASA's Swift Observatory.

... new Starbase Louisiana plans for at least ten Starship launch pads and thousands of future launches.

If it ever gets built. All birds & animals in the area will leave - due to constant noise [ major lawsuits already filled ], hurricanes love the area - nearby town destroyed by hurricane and never recovered, land is constantly shifting.

Site is remote, pipeline access means making methane and O2 can be make on site, LA governor staunchly anti-environmentalist & pro business. No major road systems or towns nearby - so access can be strictly controlled, plan is for at least 10 Starship launches daily - when completed.

You realize none of this could have been possible if it weren’t for all the Star Trek episodes watched by budding physicists and engineers.

So early in the day for a personal attack - very bracing - if you know what that means. Thanks!

” If it ever gets built. All birds & animals in the area will leave - due to constant noise [ major lawsuits already filled ] “

That’s fine. Maybe Mexico would like to be the leader in spacelaunches? Maybe China? There are many places that would like to support this if nobody else wants it.

If not LA, where would you rather see a facility to support large-scale space launches?

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Yeah Man!
That poster really has got some Freudian issues…

I am from Louisiana and I will state EVERYONE I know wants this!!!
I spent many, many fine days and nights at PECAN ISLAND!
Perfect source of natural gas available at Pecan Island…that becomes
liquid methane. LOX made from ambient air.
EM w/ Gov. Jeff Landry found the perfect place.

Indeed, I will ask that poster — if not here, where?

It a matter of lawsuits and circumstances that make building on coastal Louisiana problematic. Its likely the best spot in the continental US - other than Florida or other East coast state. But that does not make it a good choice for reasons outlined earlier - one major hurricane could destroy the entire complex beyond recovery. The massive loss of wildlife could be intolerable to too many.

Then there is the reentry problem with 10 starships returning daily over the continental US - airline flights will be, for all practical purposes, halted permanently in some areas. Not to mention the problem of one or more Starships losing control, as they come to land at the site, crossing over the US and burning up with tons of steel raining down on towns, cities, etc.

Its a matter of scale. One launch a month is one thing. 10 launches a day is another. 300 launches a month every month [ 3,600 a year ] by the largest rocket ever built, makes for substantial changes in everything from the local environment to the upper atmosphere. This is a launch scale and cadence never before seen, and no one knows what the long term effects will be, except that there will be long term effects.

So basically, you do not want SpaceX without a lot of regulations and government oversight.

I do not doubt that your arguments will be used to thwart what SpaceX wants to do in the US. If there is no alternative except fail if they stay in the US, they will move someplace else other than the US that actually wants to drive space exploration.

Do you think this would be a good thing?
