US Citizenship's Summer of Degradation

An extremely bad Supreme Court decision coinciding with an international soccer tournament and a blockbuster Hollywood movie show that U.S. citizenship no longer belongs to us, but to the entire world.

In Trump v. Barbara, the John Roberts SCOTUS Majority declared on June 30 that any child, regardless of his parents’ citizenship, legal status or residency, is a U.S. citizen.

During the 2026 FIFA World Cup U.S. soccer star Folarin Balogun was a media poster child for automatic birthright citizenship. Time magazine ran an article entitled “The U.S. Can Thank Birthright Citizenship for Its Best World Cup Player.”

Frankly, having a great soccer team is way down my list of priorities for the U.S. I think it’s much more important to have solid citizenship laws that are enforced. Besides, Balogun didn’t even win the game for us!

Lately, there’s been a lot of talk about “The Odyssey,” a movie written and directed by dual citizen Christopher Nolan (British dad, American mom). Black actress Lupita Nyong’o was cast as Helen of Troy.

Lupita's parents are Kenyan, but she was born in Mexico. That made her both a Kenyan citizen and a Mexican citizen.

Later in life, Lupita adopted American citizenship. She was naturalized shortly before the 2024 election and thus was able to vote for Kamala Harris.

How many million people are now dual citizens of the U.S. and other countries? Isn’t it high time to reform our citizenship law?

Somewhat related news:

In the first seven months of 2026, Chicago alone had more murders than all the major pro-gun cities in Florida put together.

Chicago: 253 homicides

Miami + Orlando + Tampa: 29 homicides

It is complete: imaginary citizens to create an imaginary border
No one asking what came first; the chicken or the egg?

I believe the SCOTUS opinion provided the only remedy to this idea was Congressional action - I thought that was why the amendment was written they base this decision? Defining who are citizens

If Congressional action is the only answer we are toast.
