"It's really you," a Ukrainian woman says in surprise as Boris Johnson takes off his woolly hat to reveal that unmistakable shock of hair. The former prime minister is on an unannounced trip to Ukraine to report on the war and make the case for increased British support. There is a surprise for viewers, too, because Johnson has made a sober, no-frills documentary – Boris Johnson: Into Ukraine's Kill Zone (Channel 5) – with a serious purpose.
He has done this at no small risk to his safety. During his first night on the front line, he is awoken by the sound of drone strikes on a nearby apartment block, similar to the one where he is holed up. When Johnson ventures to a shop that has remained open in the "kill zone", an elderly lady shouts at him: "What would you do if they started bombing? Look around!", gesturing to the flattened buildings and piles of rubble. Johnson is brave to be there at all, although the only time we see fear flash across his face is when a couple of Ukrainian soldiers wave a homemade bomb around. They laugh and tell him to relax: it hasn't been fitted with a detonator yet.
For obvious security reasons, Johnson is travelling incognito. The hair makes him quite recognisable, so at one point he exchanges his hat for a balaclava. A member of the film crew jokes that the Ukrainians would have preferred a visit from Yvette Cooper (Foreign Secretary at the time this programme was made). "Sorry to let you down," Johnson jokes.
But there is no clowning around or spouting Latin here. Johnson is in proper journalist mode, jotting down notes as he conducts interviews with soldiers, clergymen and charity workers.

Blowvious [short] Johnson is still on the hustings?
Why?
BoJo the Clown.
How many Ukrainians has he gotten killed?
.
“In addition to the material damage caused by these attacks, Ukraine’s aerial offensive is also changing the mood among the Russian population, many of whom had grown accustomed to the idea that the invasion of Ukraine was a foreign war that did not concern them. With videos showing the consequences of Ukrainian strikes now an increasingly routine feature on Russian social media, it is becoming difficult to avoid the conclusion that the invasion unleashed by Putin in 2022 is coming home to Russia itself.”
.
Sober, no frills film?
I wanna drunken film with frills. Lots of frills.
He still hasn’t learned anything since he flew in to Kiev and torpedoed the first Peace agreement. With his pal senile Joe now gone, he is still itching to fight down to the last Ukrainian, which we have been witnessing.
Lucy displays her football, once again.
Is he still combing his hair with a BALLOON???
