Kansas Democrat Senate Frontrunner and Methodist Pastor: Bible Is Full of Errors
Breitbart ^ | 07/20/2026 | Hannah Knudsen

Adam Hamilton, a frontrunner in the Kansas’s Democrat primary race for Senate, is a Methodist pastor who believes that the Bible is full of errors.

Hamilton is a senior pastor at Resurrection, A United Methodist Church, who is running for Senate, hoping to take down Republican Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS). He wrote in a message to his congregation that he is running as an “’independent-minded’ candidate on the Democratic ticket for the United States Senate.”

He is largely running on an “affordability” agenda, leaving social issues out of the way at the kickstart. However, he already has a record of controversial views on record — particularly his view that the Bible is full of errors.

In one sermon titled, “Is The Bible True?” Hamilton appears to conclude that it is not — at least, not entirely.

“If I could prove just one mistake in the Bible, will I have won the debate? He said, ‘Absolutely.’ I said, ‘Ok,'” he said, detailing his conversation and noting that he could think of “hundreds” of mistakes in God’s Word.

“I can think of hundreds, but let me just give you one. I said, ‘Where did Jesus ascend to heaven from?’ And he stopped for a second. I said, ‘So you do remember, right? Let me just show you on the map here. In Luke’s gospel, Jesus ascends to heaven from the Mount of Olives by Jerusalem. In Matthew’s gospel, Jesus ascends to heaven from the Galilee,'” he said.

“I said, ‘Look, there’s like 75, depending on the route, 75 to 90 miles difference between these two towns. Matthew says one, Luke says the other. They can’t both be right, so one of them is wrong,'” he said. “One of them is by the Sea of Galilee. One of them is in Jerusalem.”

Mathew does not describe the accession, it describes the great commission. The debate of where the Ascension occurred is between Bethany and the Mount of olives which are about 1.5 miles about, literally walking distance

Luke 24:50-51 and Acts 1:11 describe the Ascension and the supposed conflict is as I stated above, given how close they are there is no conflict in my opinion, it is a matter of authors recounting events in their own terms.

One can easily describe a city area as an approximation as opposed to a specific landmark to where an event occurred.

The “Pastor” is a deceiver.

How can you be a “pastor” and believe that the Bible is “full of errors”. I guess that’s why he’s pastoring the liberal Methodists.

Much of these problems have been amplified when theology degrees and seminary degrees no longer cared if you actually believed. Credentialing “experts,” who are not filled with the Holy Spirit, on matters of Theology is a gross mistake.

Methodist calling themselves Christian is false advertising.

After electing a Gay Bishop 10 years ago, they should have dropped the pretense of being Christian.

I guess they skipped the whole chapter on ‘Divinely Inspired’ at the seminary when he went to school.

I suppose if there are a couple of errors in the Bible we can just ignore that “Man shall not lie with man” bit because that is just another error. God really didn’t say that.

One thing I have done now for years is doggedly research any new “error” presented by someone about the Scripture. I can honestly say I have never found a single one that actually was a contradiction of God’s Word to God’s Word.

I have seen scholarly opinions on terms and places claimed to be errors, or locations like this one, seen supposed genealogy errors, and even some attempts to present doctrinal errors. To date in my experience none have ever rose to the level of an actual critical error.

The United Methodist Church is falling apart, along with the other mainline Protestant churches. In 1968, the UMC had 11 million members. Now it has maybe half that number. Three years ago, a quarter of the UMC’s congregations left and formed the (conservative) Global Methodist Church.

With regard to the New Testament, we have several ten thousand documents from the first three centuries. These documents range in size from a fragment of a page to several pages. Our first Bibles were based on such documents.

We never stopped looking for additional ancient documents. Significantly, in relatively recent years, we have discovered hordes of documents, such as the Oxyrhynchus Papyri.

Our Christian faith does not depend on any one source or on any one authority, but on thousands of sources, the authority of many sincere and learned people over the centuries, and on each of our own testimonies.

But the devil is relentless. He will never stop trying to ensnare us. If you pride yourself on knowledge, he will use that against you. In the 19th Century, the devil weaseled his way into our religion with appeals based, e.g., on textual criticism. We have answered those criticisms, but some people are trapped in their 19th Century ways. They are trapped by their own sin of pride.

Too many people become pastors or ministers as a job and not a calling. I’ve known several. There was only one I met that had the true calling. That guy was a true believer and put everything on the line to be a pastor.

Translation errors are not critical errors. I immediately dismiss anyone who tries to present spelling and grammar errors as some kind of Scriptural gotcha.

I specifically stated God’s Word to God’s Word with that in mind. If a person is resorting to a mistranslated word or phrase as an error in God’s word they are being dishonest or disingenuous or just lack the capacity to actually engage rationally on the subject.

Scripture says there would be people like this “pastor”. That was no error.
