Wow! The mostly peaceful pundit Jonathan Capehart entered the rhetorical octagon on the Fourth of July edition of MS NOW's The Weekend!
“As descendants of slaves who built this country and, and from a community that marched in the streets and, and bled and fought for the right to vote and to make this country a more, a more perfect union, I defy anyone to tell me that I don't love this country. And I am not a part of this country. I will, I will fight anybody who tries to say that I am not American!”
Whoa, Jonathan! Who knew the normally mild-mannered commentator had this in him?

How was picking cotton “building the country”? Sure your ancestors built some shirts and skirts. But they didn’t do anything substantial like the Chinese workers who built the railroad tracks.

From what little I know of Antebellum American History, most of what was built was in the Industrialized North, as opposed to the Agrarian South.Most of what the South had built was destroyed during the Civil War.
