A car exploded in the city of Balashikha, which borders the Russian capital Moscow, in the early morning of June 9, killing the driver at the scene. According to the Telegram channel Two Majors, the man killed in the explosion has been identified as a Russian major general. The channel, however, did not reveal his name. Earlier, witnesses and Russia’s Investigative Committee confirmed that a 62-year-old man died after an explosive device detonated inside a vehicle in the Aviatorov district of Balashikha. The explosion occurred shortly after the car began moving. Russia’s Investigative Committee said the blast occurred at around 5:30 a.m. local time while the vehicle was moving near a residential apartment building on Koldunova Street in the Aviatorov district of Balashikha. Investigators believe an explosive device was detonated, causing fatal injuries to the driver. Authorities have opened a criminal investigation, although the specific charges have not been disclosed. Forensic specialists and investigators are working at the scene, and several examinations have been ordered, including explosive and forensic medical analyses. The incident occurred near the site of another high-profile car bombing. It’s worth recalling that in April 2025, Russian Major General Yaroslav Moskalik was killed when an explosive device detonated in his vehicle approximately 350 meters from Tuesday’s blast site. Moskalik died at the scene.

Some funny comments on the video.

Probably wasn't making the loan payment on the car and the bank took action. They don't mess around there.

Begs the question, are there any minor generals?

Or, as they say in Chicago, he found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Fun fact: The rank “major general” comes from the old rank “sergeant major general”.

...62-year-old man died

Probably Gen. Aleksandr Lapin (born 1 January 1964).
